Trump says the US destroyed a “major facility” in its campaign against Venezuela
United States President Donald Trump announced that his country destroyed a “major facility” last week as part of his campaign against a drug trafficking network that Washington says is led by Venezuela. However, he did not specify whether the attack took place on Venezuelan territory. “We just destroyed it, I don’t know if you read it or saw it… They have a large facility or a large facility where the ships leave. Two nights ago we destroyed it. So we gave them a very hard blow,” Trump said on Friday in a radio podcast interview that was picked up by US media this Monday.
The president did not provide details about the nature of the installation, and his government has not yet confirmed the coup. If confirmed, it would be the first land attack in an anti-narcotics campaign so far carried out in international waters in the Caribbean.
Trump made the statements in a conversation with Republican billionaire and owner of New York’s WABC radio station, John Catsimatidis, as both commented on U.S. military actions against ships in the Caribbean to dismantle an alleged drug trafficking network led by what the U.S. calls the “Suns Cartel” and said to be controlled by the Venezuelan government.
