The gas increase has already begun to take effect, which is the first blow to the wallet of 2026 that will be felt in La Plata and across the country. This is because, as reported yesterday, fuel producing, importing and marketing companies will have to apply the new amounts for tax accounting.
In this way, the executive branch determined that gasoline would be subject to an increase in the liquid fuel tax of $17,291 and the carbon dioxide tax of $1,059 per liter. For diesel, the increase is $14,390 per liter for the general tax, $7,792 for the differential rate that applies to regions such as Patagonia and certain inland areas, and $1,640 per liter for the carbon tax.
In the case of La Plata, the YPF gas station noticeboards today say that premium gasoline costs $1,594, while Infinia remained at $1,812. While the diesel is worth $1,616 and the diesel Infinia is worth $1,809.

At Shell, the signs indicate that you pay $1,699 for the Super and $1,977 for the V-Power. While the V-Power Diesel is valued at $1,949.

Gasoline increased: what the government said
The government justified in the document that the increase was necessary to “continue to stimulate economic growth through a sustainable fiscal path.” The increase comes as part of a series of monthly updates that have been rolling out since 2024.
Since 2018, the liquid fuel tax and the carbon dioxide tax have been updated every three months in line with inflation developments, but various administrations have decided to postpone their application in order to limit the impact on public sales prices.
The carbon dioxide tax specifically taxes emissions of pollutants resulting from the use of fossil fuels and is levied as a fixed amount per liter in addition to the main tax on liquid fuels. Although it represents a smaller percentage of the tax burden, it is automatically updated along with the rest of the taxes to maintain its true value from a fiscal and environmental perspective.
At the end of November, the government extended a new increase in fuel taxes and ordered that the tax increase due in 2024, in addition to the updates for the first three quarters of 2025, only apply to premium, fresh gasoline and diesel from January 1, 2026.
