Óscar Fernández Calle, spokesman for Vox in Extremadura and the party’s candidate for executive board in the last regional elections, publicly wished all citizens of Extremadura a “happy 2026” and regretted the persistence of structural problems in the region, which he said had not been resolved in recent years. In this context, Fernández Calle claimed that the institutional New Year’s Eve speech by María Guardiola, acting president of the Regional Government of Extremadura and representative of the Popular Party, neither responds to the real demands of regional society nor offers concrete solutions to the main challenges facing the community.
According to the media, Vox described Guardiola’s message as “irrelevant, devoid of content” and linked to the disconnection from the everyday problems of Extremadura’s citizens. Fernández Calle stressed that this is not a speech “that addresses the real problems of the region or offers solutions to the serious deficiencies from which Extremadura continues to suffer.” The spokesperson pointed out that Vox does not attach any value to the content presented by the popular leader since “her message does not affect the well-being of Extremadurans and only serves to divert attention from what is really important.”
The media pointed out that, according to Vox’s assessment, Extremadura is facing a “critical” situation in several key areas, including employment, the lack of adequate infrastructure, the state of public services, life in rural areas and the lack of opportunities for the youngest. Fernández Calle regretted that during María Guardiola’s two-year term as head of the regional executive, no resolution of these outstanding “problems” was achieved.
Regarding institutional messages like New Year’s Eve, Vox claims that they are “completely out of place” in a context where the community “continues to suffer from the same structural problems as always.” Fernández Calle believes that the current policies do not bring any progress or real changes compared to the measures applied for decades in Extremadura. According to their statements collected by the media, the training believes that “Extremadura needs management, solutions and bold decisions” and not “empty speeches or institutional propaganda disconnected from the daily reality of thousands of Extremadurans”.
The spokesman stressed, according to the media, that the priority must focus on concrete progress and addressing collective needs, ignoring official messages that, in his opinion, do not bring tangible improvements to the well-being of citizens. He added that the role of these discourses is unclear due to the ongoing difficulties in accessing stable work, the lack of basic services in many rural areas and the absence of projects that enable young people to find future opportunities in the region.
Fernández Calle reiterated that, from the perspective of Vox and media reports, what is required from the regional government is a more effective public administration and a change in the policies that have governed Extremadura in recent decades. The speaker added the formation’s wish that 2026 marks the beginning of a phase with greater opportunities to solve pending economic and social problems for the region.
