
The French economist Frédéric Bastiat (1801-1850), who had an immense taste for satire, dreamed up a petition to the king to forbid all his subjects from using their right hands. He justified this apparently insane measure using clear logic: the more a person works, the richer they become; the more difficulties you have to overcome, the harder you work; Therefore, the more difficulties a person has to overcome, the richer he becomes.
