The Italian Enzo Maresca has ceased to be coach of the English club Chelsea after an agreement reached by the two parties, as reported by the London club this Thursday. With the message “Chelsea Football Club and coach Enzo Maresca have separated”, expresses the entity blue the departure of the coach, who arrived on the bench in June 2024 and who had a contract until June 2029.
At this point, the former player of teams like Sevilla and Malaga, and former coach of Parma and Leicester, led Chelsea to win the 2024/25 Conference League (4-1 against Betis) and the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. This campaign, however, in recent months the London team was on a path full of doubts and rumors about Maresca’s dissatisfaction with the club itself were constant.
Before this decision, they had won only one match in the last seven Premier League matches, although in the League Cup they are in the semi-finals and in the Cup in the third round, while in the Champions League they are thirteenth after six days, two points from the places which give direct access to the round of 16. In the regularity tournament, they are fifth, 15 points behind leader Arsenal. In total, the Italian coached Chelsea in 92 matches in all competitions, with 55 victories.
Chelsea, who look back on the triumphs achieved with Maresca and assure that “these achievements will constitute an important part of the recent history of the club”, thank him “for his contribution” and wish him “the best for the future”. “With key objectives still to play for in four competitions, including qualification for the Champions League, Enzo and the Club believe that a change gives the team the best opportunity to get the season back on track,” says the Stamford Bridge club, now forced to look for a replacement to lead the team, whose next match is on Sunday at Manchester City.
