
A pregnant woman in a suspicious attitude was approached on Avenida Atlântica in the early hours of Thursday and with her, agents of the Municipal Secretariat of Public Order (Seop) found 29 cell phones and a professional camera. The suspect was taken by teams to the special tourist assistance police station (Deat), along with five suspected foreign victims, Polish and Peruvian.

The approach took place around 3 a.m., when agents positioned on Avenida Atlântica, near the Copacabana Palace, observed intense movement accompanied by shouts in the crowd. Faced with the situation, the teams immediately went to the site, where they identified a pregnant woman in a suspicious attitude.
After the approach, it was found that the woman was in possession of 29 mobile phones, a professional camera and a wallet, all hidden in three double-bottomed bags, wrapped in aluminum foil, possibly with the aim of preventing the emission of signals from the devices. The woman was taken by CATI teams to the Special Tourist Assistance Commission (DEAT), along with five foreign victims, Polish and Peruvian, so that appropriate measures could be taken.

During Operation “Tatuí”, carried out in the early hours before New Year’s Eve, Seop agents seized hundreds of glass bottles and crates of various drinks. Around 120 vehicles were towed between December 30 and January 1 and around 1,550 traffic fines were issued by Seop and the Municipal Guard on Wednesday alone.
Around five tonnes of ice were seized, in addition to more than two tonnes of fruit for preparing drinks, thousands of glass bottles, five barbecues positioned on the sand strip, dozens of tarpaulins and five toilet structures illegally installed on the sand (near the main stage). More than 30 tents and tricycles were also seized and taken to the municipal depot.

Seop also informed that although he had previously informed all traders and kiosk owners to minimize the creation of “VIP enclosures” (irregular occupation of public spaces), 19 traders were breached for various irregularities and 15 enclosures were dismantled.
Teams from the Coordination of Integrated Territorial Actions (Cati) approached 370 homeless residents in Copacabana alone. Only one of them accepted municipal housing. More than 60 people had their criminal records checked. Thirty sharp objects were seized. A total of three people were taken to the police station by Seop.
Of the 1,370 officers, 471 were employed exclusively in traffic control and inspection. In addition, the operation benefited from the support of 90 vehicles, including cars and motorcycles, as well as ten trailers. The teams also worked to monitor street vendors, in particular to curb the sale of glass bottles in kiosks and stands.
