With a large number of spectators, the São Silvestre Race took place on Thursday evening (31), in the streets of São Paulo, and achieved extraordinary success, with heated disputes between the participants for first place.
Due to various delays, the departure took place at 11:55 p.m. – and not at 11:30 p.m. as planned. The palm of victory brilliantly went to the athlete Alfredo Gomes, and second place went to Matheus Marcondes.
The São Silvestre race took to the streets, promoted by the newspaper A Gazeta (it was the first edition of the race which would become very traditional).
