I have carefully read the various previews that have been made in the press of this year 2025. Even in the most sanchist casinos, the pessimism that all the data invites has been appreciated, with the sole exception of the increase in GDP, which … It is therefore only good news if the 2.8 percent is isolated and if we do not consider that this growth has not reached the pockets of citizens, who are living worse and worse. The exercise that we are carrying out these first days of the year 26 consists of honestly predicting all the bad things that we do not expect: it will be an even worse year since the economic situation is doomed to a bag of damage. The housing problem cannot be solved without many years of policies different from current ones; emigration will not be stopped by intelligent solutions; the debt will continue to grow extravagantly – last year, by 4 percent more, or 70 billion more, without anyone in the government getting angry, despite the sharp increase in collections; the countryside and fishing will suffer the consequences of stupid regulations from Brussels; The social security hole will widen and territorial gaps will create citizens of different categories depending on where they live. Not to mention the concessions made to the various independence movements which are bleeding the country, and which have high expectations thanks to the weakness of Sánchez and his extreme desire to stay in Moncloa.
And how can a government plagued by episodes of corruption – which are only just beginning to come to light – continue as if nothing had happened and not be dissolved in the face of evidence of its ineffectiveness and the electoral discredit of its president, for whom three predictable setbacks await him in the next regional elections? Well, for the simple reason that this Sánchez has no safe place to go. Elections cannot be allowed, which will happen one day anyway, because that would mean their ouster and, therefore, becoming any citizen, which they are not currently. A president can only be arrested if caught with a smoking gun; It is registered and can therefore only be investigated by a Chamber of the Supreme Court; Congress can refuse the request to try him – and have the case thrown out; and be directly acquitted. And, if that wasn’t enough, he has enough power to pardon any family member or friend found guilty. Add to this the control of the prosecution to make it another defense lawyer for elements like the attorney general or any other and a control no less important: the police. This allows him not to avoid but to hinder all possible investigations. How do you think it will go?
This new year will constitute a new step towards definitive political empowerment. I’m sorry for not providing a better forecast. Man, if Trump fires Maduro…but I don’t know what to tell him.
