According to the police report, the incident occurred around midnight, on Professor Luciano Gualberto Avenue, in building G of the Institute of Energy and Environment of the USP (IEE-USP). Security guards were conducting rounds in the unit when they were approached by two armed men near the guard post. The criminals forced the victims to sit in the kitchen adjoining the guard post, thus keeping them under constant threat.
Then, two other individuals arrived on the scene in a van and managed to open a steel door giving access to the laboratory. The criminals stole eight spools of copper wire, 80 meters of plastic cable and the guards’ cell phones. Part of the exterior of the laboratory had been without electricity since around 3:30 p.m., which may have facilitated the action of the criminals. The case was registered at the 93rd Police District (Ceasa), where security officers made a statement to police authorities.
In a statement, the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) said efforts were already underway to identify and locate those involved in the case and that it was investigating the theft.
