2026 begins for Juanfran Pérez Llorca with a clear countdown marked on the calendar: that of the congress that the PPCV will hold, as one might expect, in September.
The date is important because at this time of year Alberto Nuñez Feijóo You will have to decide about your future. In other words, if he is a candidate for the Generalitat in 2026 or not.
Pérez Llorca has exactly nine months to achieve this. Not one more. A challenge which is not easy for a president of the regional government and which requires him to develop a strategy focused on very specific deadlines with the aim of strengthening his visibility among public opinion, taking management steps and uniting the party around him.

There are favorable and unfavorable factors along the way. Among the latter are especially the eras. The leader of the Valencian Executive finds himself in an atypical situation. He does not have before him a full legislature to implement major and transcendent measures.
The context of the Valencian Community is also not the usual one, due to Dana. An important part of management focuses on reconstruction with a multitude of tasks still pending. And above all that they are really perceived and visible by the inhabitants of the areas concerned, where the PPCV holds many key votes.
Pérez Llorca must therefore combine the continuity of the management of the government of Carlos Mazon with some milestones both in reconstruction and other areas.
Feijóo gives him the “confidence” of the PP
The will of Genoa adds to the complication of the times. Whatever the efforts made by the President of the Generalitat and, in the hypothetical case that 2026 takes place without major crises and the PPCV rises in the polls, who will decide will be Feijóo.
The headliner for 2027 is unclear, although the window of opportunity clearly exists. In fact, the leader of the PP is already expressing his joy at the first steps of Pérez Llorca.
During the process of Mazón’s resignation, it became clear that Feijóo showed his preference for the profile of the mayor of Valencia, Maria Jose Catala.
But changing the stickers was very complicated and the first mayor He didn’t want (and doesn’t want to) leave town hall. This is how he passed it on to Feijóo. Pérez Llorca appeared to be the most reasonable option.
And even though many in the party believe he should double down and is the one with the most options, the movements that exist to promote an alternative They don’t escape anyone either.
In any case, the first words that Feijóo had towards Pérez Llorca were pleasant. In an interview with Servimedia this Thursday, was happy to have “resolved a crisis in a completely satisfactory manner” and recognized that “favorably surprised” from his first days at the helm.

The leader of the PP stressed to the President of the Generalitat that he is “a pedestrian politician” due to his years as mayor and that he is a person “used to reaching agreements” in the Corts, as he demonstrated in his role as parliamentary spokesperson in the current legislature.
“In such a short time” since the inauguration session of November 27, Feijóo estimated that Llorca “showed courage” in the face of “a very delicate situation” to “socially reunify the Valencian Community”.
In addition, he approved his meeting with Pedro Sánchez in Moncloa, the new additions to his executive, the appeal to associations of crime victims and the visits to the area of the tragedy.
Feijóo concluded that Pérez Llorca has “the confidence” of the PP to “prove during the remaining two years of the legislature its ability to manage, organize and unite the party” aspire to be at the top of the list in the regional elections scheduled for 2027.
He also justified the decision to approve a transition commission to give more “dressing” to the organic changes, in particular the appointment of the new secretary general of the PPCV, Carlos Gil.
Electoral oxygen
With the words of the leader of the PP, it is obvious that the work of Pérez Llorca is twofold: that of convince an electorate marked in Valencia by the dana which is also influenced by the national situation and that of convince your own party.
Despite the unfavorable factors, there are other positive ones for the President of the Generalitat. The main one is the own leadership change of autonomous government.
Mazón’s resignation already gives oxygen to the PPCV at the electoral level and returns an institution to the Generalitat which many already considered worryingly lost. Something that was reflected in the importance acquired by the agenda and the first gestures of Pérez Llorca.
For example, with his call to victims associations of the dana, which give normality to the dialogue with this group despite the fact that neither the meeting will be easy to achieve nor that the associations will abandon their demands to the Generalitat.
As for the agendathis has a particular symbolism in the first weeks of his mandate, even if Pérez Llorca’s intention is to reduce the actions in the months to come.

The President of the Generalitat made his first official visits to two towns hard hit by the dana: Picanya and Paiporta. And both governed by socialist mayors (Pep Almenar and Vicent Císcar). Both meetings were cordial and he was able face their presence on the street without any problemsomething that Mazón did not achieve.
Another of the most notable visits was that of Utiel, the first town affected by the tragedy of October 29, 2024. Its mayor (Ricardo Gabaldón) is in fact from the PP. The President of the Generalitat took advantage of his trip to record from there the traditional New Year’s Eve message in another symbolic gesture.
Pérez Llorca’s agenda these weeks also included the meeting in Moncloa with Pedro Sánchez, visits to Torrevieja, Benidorm or Alicante, an event of the Valencian employers’ union CEV or the reception of certain social groups such as ALS patients.
They also went to Barxeta, l’Alcúdia and Carcaixent due to the rainy season last week.
Although this presence on the street has so far been a priority for the President of the Generalitat, the idea, according to sources from the Executive, is not to maintain the agenda of his predecessor, Carlos Mazón, who stood out – to the point – during the days of 3 and 4 events.
Thus, the intention is to combine its visible presence with a agenda more focused on office and strategy tasks it also doesn’t give you overexposure. The reality, in any case, will be what will mark your steps beyond the intention.
