The United States confirms the attack on Caracas and the capture of Nicolas Maduro
The Venezuelan government has accused the United States of attacking the region. In a statement, President Nicolas Maduro declared a state of emergency throughout the country.
“The entire country must mobilize to defeat this imperialist aggression,” the statement said, according to the international press.
The Venezuelan government said it rejects the “serious military aggression perpetrated by the current government of the United States of America against the Venezuelan territory and population in the civil and military localities of the city of Caracas, capital of the Republic, and in the states of Miranda, Aragua and La Guaira.”
“The Bolivarian Government calls on all social and political forces in the country to activate mobilization plans and reject this imperialist attack. The people of Venezuela and their Bolivarian National Armed Force, in perfect popular-military-police fusion, are mobilized to guarantee sovereignty and peace,” the government said.
The attack comes two days after Maduro announced he would be willing to talk with the US leader. He said he would have to talk seriously with Trump, “with the facts in hand, and the American government knows it.”
Colombian President Gustavo Petro also spoke out on social media, saying that “they are bombing Caracas” as we speak. “Alert the whole world, they have attacked Venezuela. They are bombarding it with missiles. The OAS and the UN must meet immediately.”
