See these data from the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics (Into), a reference center for orthopedics: 64% of cases, in 2023 and 2024, of patients who were victims of traffic accidents involved motorcycle riding.
Then come pedestrian accidents (15% in 2023 and 2024), car accidents (13% in 2023, 11% in 2024), and, in increasing numbers, bicycle accidents (8% in 2023, 10% in 2024). “Behind every number is a story of an interrupted or changed life,” says José Paulo Gabi, Director General of the Institute. “That is why prevention must be at the heart of the traffic debate.”
Into warns that the overall number of traffic accidents has increased when compared between 2023 and 2024: it has increased from 25% to 30% of the total number of patients treated by the institute.
In fact, the “Atlas of Violence 2025”, which for the first time brought data on traffic violence, says that in 2023 the country recorded 34,881 deaths on road transport – an increase of 2.9% compared to the previous year. Motorcycles were involved in 38.6% of these fatal accidents, an increase of 12.5% compared to 2022.
One more thing: The Rio Fire Department recorded 215 accidents involving electric bikes between January and September 2025, compared to 112 accidents in the same period in 2024 — an increase of about 91%.
The new president of the Supreme Labor Court, Luiz Felipe Vieira de Mello Filho, has worked with Congress to regulate the work of APPs. For example, he considers paying for delivery time ridiculous. This is one of the causes of accidents, as the faster the driver drives, the more he earns.
