Madrid, November 15 (European Press) –
On Saturday, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Rustam Umarov, announced an agreement with the Russian authorities to exchange 1,200 prisoners from each side. The agreement has already been approved by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Umarov explained in a message posted on his Telegram account: “By order of the President of Ukraine, contacts were recently held with mediation partners in Turkey and the United Arab Emirates in order to resume the process of exchange and release of our people detained by Russia.”
After these negotiations, Moscow and Kiev agreed to activate the Istanbul Agreements. “It is to liberate 1,200 Ukrainians,” he explained.
Technical negotiations that will take place in the near future are still ongoing. “We are working tirelessly so that Ukrainians who have to return from captivity can celebrate the New Year and Christmas at home, at the family table and with their relatives,” he stressed.
Umarov had also discussed with Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani the issue of the return of minors under guardianship in Russia who were transferred from the territory of eastern Ukraine controlled by Russian forces.
On the other hand, President Zelenskyy stressed in his daily afternoon address that Russia “missed another deadline” set to seize Pokrovska and Kubyanska, which are besieged by Russian forces.
