Emilio, Irene, Alvaro, Cristina, Lucia and Cocos are six children, some young and others not so young, who decided to go to Camping Osuna for nine days on one condition, that everything be recorded. They don’t know each other at all, although they have one thing in common: they’ve done it … under. Telemadrid premieres this Sunday at 9:45 p.m. “El Camping”, the new social advocacy documentary reality that addresses intellectual disability from a close, positive and bias-free perspective. At least, that’s its premise. And he does this with the presenter who, as he confirms, was there before and after the recording of this program in many ways: Elena Furiasi. “This program did not make me hesitate even for a minute. The word “documentary” is scary, but it’s not what I imagined it to be. “I had my prejudices and didn’t know how I should deal with them, and I realized that I had to do it like everyone else, because they are the same,” the actress admitted excitedly during the performance while the boys, sitting in the audience, could not help but smile enthusiastically and laugh.
The program, produced by The Mediapro Studio, invites you to live a ten-day coexistence in which six people with Down Syndrome share experiences, challenges and learn in the midst of nature. Furiase takes an active role in the experience, accompanying, guiding and engaging the heroes in every moment of this human adventure, in an exercise of empathy and closeness that embodies the spirit of the programme. “We laughed, we cried. It was a gift. I was used to cameras, but not on them, and now I miss them. “They have become my friends and it’s true,” says the actress.
The participants, Emilio, Irene, Alvaro, Cristina, Lucia and Cocos, begin their adventure by getting to know each other and discovering who will be their presenter. In their early days, they built a “relaxation” area together using pallets. As they live together, the six heroes will gain their new routine at the campsite, working as a team to improve their environment and bring life to their new home. They will be responsible for the landscaping surrounding their bungalows, with the help of horticultural guests and very special visitors such as Pepe Rodriguez, Vanessa Romero, Boti Castillo, Miguel Lago, Vicente del Bosque or Carina. “When we received the proposal, we did not hesitate for a minute. The work is not done to win audiences, but to get the message across. “I think the first 20 minutes of the program are the best 20 I’ve ever done on Telemadrid,” admitted Ramon Camplor, director of Antena de Telemadrid, who is close to this reality because his brother Julio also has Down syndrome.
The program is a true documentary reality where viewers will be able to see the lives of these children during those days in the camp. There are some very interesting moments, but Furiase is very clear about his favorite part. “The best thing is without a doubt the debate, because it’s the moment where you tell your fears, your dreams, your anger, your limits, your no-limits, because she doesn’t have them,” the actress admits. During that moment, the actress asked questions. “I asked them about the future without their parents. “It is true that there are people who live alone, but I was afraid to bring it up in case they would never ask and the truth is that it was shocking because there were some who did not and they felt emotional when they told how they lived this life.”
The actress has built a good rapport with them, so much so that she plans to invite them to her house for a Christmas snack. “I want you to meet my children. The truth is that we write to each other a lot, send many messages and follow each other on social networks.“Comments Furiasi, who believes that this program is necessary to achieve social justice with them. “They are all equal and 100% real. It can help open perspectives. “We have a huge tendency to raise kids with Down syndrome, but they have jobs, they’ve got their license, they live on their own, and we have to get those things out of our heads now,” the actress says.
