California Governor Gavin Newsom made a quick visit to Sao Paulo on his way to attend the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Belem. In the wake of the political victory he achieved in the United States, in which he was able to redraw electoral districts in California by popular vote, in a move that was in the interest of his Democratic Party, he was keen to get to know Cesc Pompea, from the works of Lina Bo Bardi.
Newsom was on Sunday afternoon at the Brutalist Architects’ Complex at the Sao Paulo Art Museum, MASP, west of Sao Paulo. According to people who attended the visit, he, who was the mayor of the city of San Francisco in the United States, was interested in the fact that the reflecting pool in one of the main galleries of the cultural center bears the name of the saint himself.
He is one of Donald Trump’s biggest opponents in the United States today and one of his party’s main bets in the upcoming race for the White House. He will also visit Casa de Vidro, in Morumbi, the residence of the architect and her husband, Pietro Maria Bardi, but the visit was canceled due to traffic in São Paulo.
