The President of the Workers’ Party (PT), Edinho Silva (PT), responded on Monday (11/17) to the Governor of São Paulo, Tarcisio de Freitas (Republicans), after the Republican’s speech about the “CEO change” of Brazil. In a video clip that went viral on social media, the Labor Party member stated that the state is not a company.

“Brazil does not need a CEO, it needs a leader. Removal of the CEO, Governor Tarcisio? You talk about public administration as if the government were running a company, but you forget that the state has no owner. There is no majority of shareholders; the state exists to make the interests of the people prevail, and this business logic has not worked even in the country you rule. First: What businessman goes against his company? You did it,” the Workers’ Party leader declared in a video posted on social media.
On Sunday (11/16), the governor of São Paulo also posted a video with the following caption: “Change the CEO and Brazil will start working again.” In the video, narrated by an ally of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), he refers to the country as a company, highlighting the importance of artificial intelligence to modernize company management, in reference to Brazil.

The Bolsonarist said: “What a wonderful country, Brazil, but its management is bad today. The CEO is very bad (…) Artificial intelligence is what will provide real inclusion in health, and artificial intelligence is what will solve the problem of public security. We will have a huge capacity to generate energy and reduce costs.”
The statement made by the president of the Palácio dos Bandeirantes is political in tone and in light of the possible candidacy of Planalto next year.
Despite denying his interest in running for the highest office in the executive branch and insisting on being re-elected to the São Paulo government, Freitas remains the Bolsonarians’ top bet to face President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) in the 2026 elections.
