An exchange of messages intercepted by civil police in São Paulo shows the suspects in the death of former prosecutor Rui Ferraz Fontes referring to the execution as “playing ball” and thanking each other “for their trust.” The conversations were obtained by breaking the confidentiality of those investigated and attached to the final report of the investigation submitted last week.
Almost two months after the September 15 murder in Praia Grande, twelve people were indicted on criminal organization charges, accused of being linked to the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC). The courts released five of them, who were not directly involved in the crime.

According to the same investigation report, the crime has not been completely solved and there are more people involved in the crime. Most of the prisoners were connected to the execution, and there is little information about the identity of the perpetrators.
For the investigation team, Marcos Augusto Rodriguez Cardoso, known as “Phil” and “Penelope Charmosa”, will be the highest-ranking suspect in the faction’s hierarchy. But his involvement is not detailed. In a conversation with also accused Umberto Alberto Gomez, one of the alleged shooters, Marcos Augusto showers his accomplice with praise and says he never doubted him.

“Of course my friend. Thank you for the trust you gave me when you asked me to play ball alongside you (sic),” Gomez said, on an unspecified date.
“I had no doubts about your ability, when I saw you in that video you showed, I said ‘this has to be it’ (sic),” Cardoso replied. He added: “Be careful, we are together. Thank you also for trusting me.”
At another point, the suspects talk about the need to remove traces of the crime, and that the only thing to do after that is to “hide” and wait for the investigations to end.
“Dude we gotta find a way to tell someone to set the white man on fire. I’m already screaming. There’s our digital numbers (sic),” Gomez said.
“In conversation, brother,” Cardoso replied, “we have to let everything be. If there’s a problem for us, we’ll have to cross to the other side. Just a precautionary thought, you know, brother. It’s not pessimism, but there is that possibility.”
He added: “Now there is no way. Just hide and wait for the outcome of the investigation with the men.”
Shooter Humberto Alberto Gomez was killed by Paraná police while executing an arrest warrant for him in São José dos Pinhais, in the urban area of Curitiba.
