The woman suspected of ordering the killing of nursing technician Lais Oliveira Gomez Pereira, 26, in Sipetiba, in the western region of Rio de Janeiro, surrendered herself to the police on Monday (17).
Gabriel Christine Pinheiro Rosario presented herself at the capital’s homicide police station, in Barra da Tijuca, also west of the city, accompanied by two lawyers.
According to the civil police, she feared being arrested or having her physical safety threatened.
According to the investigation, Gabrielle is suspected of offering R$20,000 to kill Laes, motivated by a desire to gain custody of the victim’s daughter.
She is the current partner of Lace’s ex-boyfriend and, according to police, showed possessive behavior towards the child.
The police said in a statement: “The person responsible for the crime showed possessive behavior towards the victim’s daughter and devised the entire plan so that she and her partner would get custody of the child. The woman even threatened Lai through messages on the social network because of her husband’s jealousy of the victim.”
Lais was killed on the morning of the 4th. She was shot in the back of the head while walking down Santa Vitoria Avenue pushing the stroller of her second child, aged one year and eight months. The child was not injured.
Security camera images show those involved in the crime walking around the area moments before the attack.
A woman suspected of mediating the murder and two men suspected of being the perpetrators have already been arrested.
One of them, Davi de Souza Malto, was arrested at a snack bar in Duque de Caxias, Baixada Fluminense, after a complaint from his mother, Kelly Silva de Souza, who recognized him from a security camera photo released after the crime.
“I recognized my son in the photo. I called to report my son. Because my son was born in the church, my son was playing guitar in the worship service. I never imagined that my son would kill an innocent girl,” Kelly told RJ2, on TV Globo.
The mother said: “I want to ask forgiveness from this father. The Lai family who is crying. Because if I suffer, I know that their pain is much greater.”
Davey’s defense position was not identified in the report.
Metropolitan homicide police are investigating possible people involved in Gabriel’s escape and the possible involvement of these supporters in other crimes, such as embezzlement.
The suspect arrived at the police station surrounded by journalists and did not make any statements. The defense denies that she ordered the crime to be committed.
