Never has a video game caused as many headaches as Subnautica 2, and it’s a shame, because the underwater survival game is one of the most anticipated within the genre.
Subnautica 2 is the sequel to the famous survival game, which will arrive on Xbox Series X|S and PC in early access from Unknown Worlds and publisher Krafton, which now holds the rights to Hi-Fi Rush.
Everything seemed to be going well… until Krafton announced his resignation from Unknown Worlds management right off the bat. Now the project passed into the hands of the CEO of Striking Distance Studioscreators of the Calisto Protocol.
According to Krafton’s executive director, Kim Chang-han, the leadership formed by Ted Gill, Charlie Cleveland and Max McGuire failed to meet the objectives agreed with the publisher.
However, the study’s founders They accused Krafton of not wanting to pay the $250 million bonus to achieve development objectives. The South Korean publisher stated that the game’s current outcome was disastrous.
Krafton and Unknown Worlds have been at war for months, and now a new accusation has emerged against the publisher: Is it true that they used AI to avoid paying bonuses to developers?
Krafton reportedly asked ChatGPT how to avoid payment
According to Kotaku, during the trial between both parties, a document was leaked that supposedly proves that Krafton turned to AI to consult on the possibility of non-payment of the bonus to unknown worlds.
Specifically, CEO Kim Chang-han is accused of having used ChatGPT to find ways to avoid paying said 250 million dollar bonusdespite the AI warning that this was unfeasible.
Pay attention to the excerpt from Kotaku’s article on the subject, as it’s worth it:
”Incriminating documents show that Krafton was looking for ways to cancel payment for performance and that its secret “Project X” was designed to reach a payment agreement or make an acquisition. When the founders refused to accept Krafton’s pay-for-performance demands, Krafton decided that an acquisition would be the easiest path.”.
In response to the accusation, Krafton refused to present the transcript of the aforementioned conversation, since, apparently, such information no longer exists.
But the South Korean editor yes, he responded to the accusations in the same media, denying everything and calling the former directors of Unknown Worlds liars.
”This statement is simply a distraction from his own efforts to destroy evidence, such as Charlie’s reminder to the other key employees (Max and Ted) to delete anything ‘incriminating’ from their own ChatGPT accounts.”.
All of this happens in the middle of Krafton’s transition be a company ”100% committed to AI”even rewarding your employees if they quit at some point before they are fired.
