
Although The squid game has come to an end, its universe will continue to expand on Netflix with a new series spin-off set in the United States that will direct David Fincher.
The first news about the project appeared in October last year and, although Fincher did not confirm anything, Hwang Dong-hyuk, creator of the original series, confirmed its existence and gave his full support to the production.

According to a new announcement on the Film and Television Industry Alliance website (via Collider), the new spin-off series of Netflix will be titled Squid Game: America and filming will begin on February 26, 2026.
This spin-off will be completely independent of the original series, introducing a new cast of characters as part of the American version of the deadly games.
Although the cast that will star in this production is still unknown, It is known that the mysterious character Cate Blanchett shown at the end of the original series will not be present in Squid Game: America.
David Fincher is currently making The Continuing Adventures of Cliff Booththe film focused on Brad Pitt’s character from Quentin Tarantino’s film Once Upon a Time in…Hollywood and which will also be released on Netflix.
There is no confirmed release date yet for Squid Game: America but given that filming will begin next February, it’s possible we won’t see the new spin-off series from The squid game on Netflix until at least 2027.
