The broadcaster has acquired the broadcast rights to the country’s main popular competition, the 2026 Sao Paulo de Futebol Junior Cup.
An advanced record in its project to expand sports broadcasting on the channel. This is because it has acquired the broadcast rights for the 2026 edition of the Sao Paulo de Futebol Junior Cup and will be showing the competition in January. The company purchased the right to display the tournament by negotiating with the São Paulo Football Federation (FPF). Thus, the broadcaster will defeat Globo, whose tournament will not appear in its edition next year.
According to the information in column “F5”, the initial agreement between the Communications Group and the National Football Federation is only for the 2026 edition of the São Paulo Junior Football Cup. If the results for the audience are satisfactory, the tendency is for the channel to extend the contract for the same period as the other tournaments it displays.
In fact, the communications group has agreements for the Paulista and Brazilian Championships until 2029. Record confirmed that it had obtained the version to show the matches of the Sao Paulo de Futebol Junior Cup during the broadcast of the match Corinthians x Sao Paulo, for the 35th round of the Brazilian League, last Thursday (20).
In its planning, the channel intends to broadcast more matches than Globo is used to: its idea is to play four matches. In this case, the decision is the semi-finals and at least one duel with a quarter-final appeal. The Marinho family broadcaster usually only shows the final match and sometimes some other matches.
Record will be the only open TV channel to broadcast its two episodes
With this change, Globo will no longer broadcast its Cup on open TV after 26 years, where it started in 1999. According to the “F5” column, the Marinho family’s communications group has opened negotiations to continue the rights to broadcast the tournament, but on its sports channel on closed TV: SporTV. It is expected that the two parties will reach a positive result in the coming days.
The record will boost Copinha’s coverage from the group stage to more than 20 cities across the state of São Paulo, which will serve as stadiums until the knockout stage. Traditionally, the decision will be made at Pacaembu, also known as the Mercado Livre Arena, on January 25, the anniversary of the founding of the capital, São Paulo.
