A court in the city of Celle in Lower Saxony ruled on Monday that the main suspect in the disappearance of British girl Madeleine McCann in 2007 can leave Germany again.
The man, a German citizen, can move within Europe using his national ID card. However, other restrictions imposed on him after serving a prison sentence for rape and other crimes remain in place.
However, he must continue to wear the electronic ankle bracelet and report to his probation service, while the court in Hildesheim, also located in Lower Saxony, will decide the rules for the man’s new residence.
You may be temporarily banned from leaving Germany “to resolve technical issues” or from residing in certain areas. His lawyer had previously filed an appeal against the conditions imposed on his client, and also spoke of a “widespread campaign of bias” during the long judicial process.
McCann was three years old when she disappeared during a family holiday at an apartment complex in Praia da Luz, southern Portugal.
