The executive producer of Bethesda Game Studios recognizes, 7 years later, that he would have liked a more “informal” announcement for the next The Elder Scrolls.
It’s almost always best to announce things when they are completed or close to completion. I’m sure it’s something Todd Howard, executive producer of Bethesdahe will never forget, mainly because he has been answering questions for 7 years about The Elder Scrolls 6, a game that was announced at E3 2018.
A well-known insider claims that the long-awaited RPG is now playable, and little by little we are learning about other news, such as the tribute that will be paid to a deceased fan as a good gesture from Bethesda.
However, The Elder Scrolls VI is still a long way off. This is again recognized by Todd Howard in an interview with GQ magazine, where he also analyzes the release of Oblivion Remastered and what Fallout fans can expect in the coming years.
The Starfield director is clear: fans shouldn’t expect a short- or medium-term release for the new The Elder Scrolls. This practically rules out that we will see it in 2026, and even the tentative date of 2028 is already circulating.
”The game is still a long way off. I ask for patience. I don’t want the fans to be anxious.” says the veteran producer.
It also recognizes that Announcing it this way at E3 2018 was a mistakeso you prefer ”announce things and then release them”. Something like they did this year with The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. ”I’ve asked myself this many times. I don’t know. I probably would have announced this more informally” recognizes Todd Howard.
The Elder Scrolls 6 will be the definitive fantasy simulator

On April 22, Bethesda announced Oblivion Remastered by surprise (although it had already been leaked) at an event, as well as its simultaneous launch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and the Game Pass service. The physical editions for PS5 and Xbox recently arrived.
Todd Howard would love to follow the same script (although I can’t guarantee this will happen) with The Elder Scrolls 6:
”My ideal version – and I’m not saying this will happen – is that time passes and one day the game just appears. You could say that Oblivion Remastered was a test. It worked well”.
It seems difficult for Microsoft to approve such a release for The Elder Scrolls VI, as it is one of the most anticipated AAA releases of the last decade. What’s clear is that it will be one of the most impressive RPGs when it’s finished, and Todd Howard defines this in a very special way.
”I will say that we want it to fulfill the role of the best fantasy world simulator. And there are different ways to achieve this, given the time that has passed”.
On precipitationthe head of Bethesda celebrated the launch of Fallout 4 Anniversary Edition (now available for PS5, Xbox Series
”There are cHundreds of people working on Fallout right now, with 76 and some other things we’re doing”. Are you referring to Fallout 3 Remastered? Or maybe a sequel to New Vegas? Let’s remember that Fallout 5 will only arrive after The Elder Scrolls VI.
Bethesda’s next release will be Fallout 4 Anniversary Edition for Nintendo Switch 2which will be released in 2026. It will also be released a new expansion along with exciting new features for Starfieldand perhaps the supposed PS5 port.
