Joy, colors and different forms of love are the theme of Rio’s LGBTI+ pride parade, which takes place on Copacabana Beach, this Sunday. Being the first in Brazil, its 30th edition arrives under the slogan “30 years of making history: from the first struggles for the right to exist to building a sustainable future”. Despite the unsettled weather, thousands of people occupied Avenida Atlantica, from Francisco Ottaviano to Constante Ramos, celebrating diversity.

This event has been organized by Grupo Arco-Íris since 1995, and in the current edition there are 13 electric trios. The main attraction of the concert is singer Daniela Mercury, who returns to the event six years after her last participation.

This year, the parade contains a range of public services provided directly to the public, including pre-exposure prophylaxis prescribing, vaccination, condom distribution, information on prevention, name correction guidelines and social rights, environmental education measures, and access to social assistance services and humanitarian care teams along the coast.

The release also saw the announcement of a campaign to ask Rio’s City Council to recognize the LGBTI+ pride parade as part of the city’s cultural heritage.
