After the 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest at Anfield last Saturday, defender Virgil van Dijk took responsibility, but also criticized his team-mates. The Reds’ captain, the defender did not hide his frustration with the team’s performance and made a public outcry, demanding more commitment from his teammates.
-It’s definitely a problem. I take responsibility. But I think that everyone in the team, not only the starting players, but also the players around them, also needs to take responsibility, because football is a team game, we all do it together and we need everyone to give their best – said the defender in the mixed zone.
Liverpool suffered its third defeat in a row, having previously lost to Real Madrid and Manchester City. However, Van Dijk rated the setback against Nottingham Forest, who were in the relegation zone, at home, as unacceptable and particularly highlighted the poor performance in the final stage.
– Obviously everyone is disappointed, as they should be, because the loss at home to Nottingham Forest is, in my opinion, very bad. That’s the least I can say about it. Especially in the second half, the goals we conceded were very easy. “It’s something we should all look in the mirror and take responsibility for,” the defender added.
Liverpool occupies 11th place in the English Premier League with 18 points – 11 points less than leaders Arsenal – and will visit West Ham next Sunday, after a midweek match against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.
