The United States has officially included the Sun Cartel on its list of terrorist organizations

Finally, the administration of US President Donald Trump on Monday included the Sun Cartel on the list of terrorist organizations, something that could be seen at any moment.

The statement from the Trump administration notes, “The State Department designates the Sun Cartel as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (OTE) as of November 24, 2025. Based in Venezuela, (that organization) is led by Maduro and other senior officials of his illegitimate regime, who have corrupted Venezuela’s military, intelligence, legislature, and judiciary.”

It states that this organization “has corrupted the army, intelligence, legislative and judicial authority in Venezuela.”

Maduro is considered the leader of this organization, according to the North American State Department. “Neither Maduro nor his followers represent the legitimate government of Venezuela. The Sun Cartel, along with other designated organizations, such as the Tren de Aragua and the Sinaloa Cartel, is responsible for terrorist violence throughout the hemisphere, as well as drug trafficking into the United States and Europe,” the statement read.

This opens the door to new legal and financial sanctions against the leaders of the Venezuelan regime. The United States states that it “will continue to use all available tools to protect our national security interests and deprive narco-terrorists of funding and resources.”
