Scams in the state of Rio resulted in losses of R$254,000 in 2024

Research conducted by OLX, the popular online buying and selling platform, shows that fraud in online purchases during Black Friday week in 2024 led to an estimated loss of R$254,000 to residents of Rio de Janeiro.

The main scams were false payment (50%), account hijacking (33%), and false advertising (17%). Mobile phones and smartphones were the items with the highest incidences of fraud (49%).

Across the country, it is estimated that Brazilians lost to digital scams in the same period amounted to R$1.9 million.
