Agents from the security forces of the Rio de Janeiro State Government removed, on Monday (24), at least 92 tons of materials used as barriers in five municipalities, areas targeted by Operation Zero Barrier. The final balance will be released.
In Ciudad de Dios, Western Region, teams removed concrete blocks, tires and mattresses from Zosimo do Amaral Avenue, parallel to Estrada dos Bandeirantes Avenue, an essential route for residents heading to Barra da Tijuca, Curicica and Tacuara, in the Southwest Region. There were also works on Avenida Cidade de Deus, on the banks of the Arroio Fundo Canal, where stones stuck in the ground were removed.
In addition to Rio, security forces operate in Duque de Caxias, Nova Iguaçu, São Gonçalo and Quemados.
The operation is coordinated by the Institutional Security Office and brings together teams from the Military Police, Civil Police, Infrastructure, Public Works, City and Social Housing departments, as well as Emop, the Institute of Public Security and municipal administrations.
This is the first phase of the Baricada Zero programme, announced by the Rio de Janeiro government. The plan repeats the name of the campaign to remove the barricades in Belford Roxo, carried out by Mayor Márcio Canela (UN), from the base allied with the governor.
According to the government, the state currently has 13,604 obstacles that have been mapped and recorded through drones or reports sent to the hotline. The number, in his opinion, may be higher.
The governor stated that there are four types of barricades in the state: those made of rubble; Those made by drilling asphalt; Concrete ones and calls for police to remove the “engineering works” are treated as more complex. Some use electricity.
