Dana Victims’ Associations will not be able to attend the appearance of the acting state president, Carlos Mazzone, because the seats reserved for guests will be occupied by the presidential cabinet. The Parliament of Valencia responded to a request from the PSPV party, which requested that groups of victims and victims be allowed to attend, and was met with a refusal from the committee table, chaired by Vox Party deputy Miriam Turel, and a “full” sign.
Specifically, the letter to the Socialists notes that “the request” for help from the victims “cannot be responded to” given that “the demand of senior officials of the state administration as well as members of the Councils of Ministers must prevail” and that there are only five places for guests. Socialists spokesman Jose Muñoz revealed in a press conference that the positions will be filled by advisors to the president who will support him in the intervention. The hard core of the Popular Party will occupy the guest seats in the limited-capacity session. Las Corts has several rooms available to pursue manifestations, such as the Vinatea Room, which has been enabled on other occasions.
Mazzone’s appearance on Tuesday is the president’s first appearance in a year, during which he will be subjected to opposition interrogations. So far, the acting president has only provided clarifications that he took into account in his interventions before the press, after appearing at his request two weeks after the damage to the Corta Valencia. The aforementioned intervention has become obsolete after the numerous changes that occurred in the version of the leader and his entourage. This will also be the regional leader’s first appearance after announcing his resignation. It is not surprising, then, the anticipation generated by this first political interrogation.
Unlike in Congress, where the format is question and answer, interventions in the Council are limited by time and parliamentary groups. The president will have an initial time to speak, then the groups will make their interventions and he will respond to what he sees. In the investigation committee, those present must tell the truth. The PSPV warned that if it discovered any discrepancy between Mazzone’s letter and information received from the Cataroga court, which is investigating the case, it would take legal action.
Last Wednesday, the acting President of the Council submitted a request to appear voluntarily on the same day as the summons of the head of government, Pedro Sánchez, who most likely will not attend because he has no commitment and will testify in a congressional committee.
