After demanding the closure of the Rosa Peña Juvenile Center in the Murcian region of Santa Cruz, which also welcomed migrant boys and girls, in exchange for signing the regional budgets, Fox has now asked the PP for its support for the proposal to close all spaces with these characteristics in the Murcia region, an issue that will be raised on Wednesday in the Assembly: “The PP has the opportunity to close all centers of illegal immigrants dependent on the autonomous community,” said the leader of the Abascal formation in the region, José Ángel Antelo.
Fox insisted that these centers were under “independent jurisdiction” and that the closure of the Santa Cruz center showed that the rest could be closed as well: “If it is necessary to enter into conflict with the national government to defend the interests of the region, we will do so.”
In an appeal to the media in front of a chalet in Banyagan, the far-right group confirmed that the regional government was planning to acquire it to house minor migrants. “We don’t want to open another chalet, neither in Santa Cruz, nor in Banyagan, nor anywhere in the region,” Antelo insisted.
The editorial team has asked the Ministry of Social Policy of Murcia what proposal Vox will present next Wednesday and has not received any response.
“It will never happen again”
Last July, when the Popular Party and Vox were still in the middle of negotiations to sign off on regional budgets, the regional government succumbed to the blackmail of the far-right party and refused to buy houses to enable 385 residential places “adapted to the new model of child care.”
“The community cancels the order that was considering the acquisition of houses to receive unaccompanied foreign minors. The correction is wise. It will not happen again,” the Minister of Social Policy of Murcia, Conchita Ruiz, posted in X, after canceling the purchase of these properties.
Eight points awaiting agreement
Closing the Santa Cruz Center was one of the points the people accepted to sign budgets with Fox. Eight other points of the agreement are still pending for calculations to proceed.
The residents of Abascal called on the regional government to implement “a new management model for the regional public park of social housing, which allows prioritizing the use of these homes among the citizens who need them most, as well as to combat the occupation mafia for which no less than 1.5 million euros will be granted.” Currently, the affordable housing plan put forward by the popular parties has been rejected by Vox: “Where there is ‘coexistence’, Vox is not.” It is also planned to amend the guidelines of the Land Act.
Reform of the Mar Menor law is also on hold: “The two parties undertake to develop the necessary legislative amendments to protect it, while creating new infrastructure that contributes to its preservation and to initiate procedures to review and reform the law before October 2025,” the budget agreement said.
The popular parties have pledged to allocate €5.5 million for the signing of a new framework agreement in the Fire and Rescue Union, which should be formalized before the end of the year. In this way and within the same deadlines, the project to build the new Comprehensive Emergency Response and Security Center must be put out to tender.
In addition to cutting off support to the unions, a measure that has already been implemented and is now in the hands of the Constitutional Court, Fox also requested the withdrawal of aid to those NGOs that, in the words of those from Abascal, “collaborate or benefit from illegal immigration.” The Popular Party also signed that it will not accept the arbitrary distribution of illegal immigrants arriving in other regions of Spain, although they have so far defended that they will “abide by the law” regarding immigration.
