Once again, Marcos Llorente is on everyone’s lips, not because of sporting merits, but because of a controversy that has become topical again due to the time of year we live in. This is not the first time that an Atletico Madrid footballer has walked around in the morning without a shirt, in shorts, and with thermometers below zero in the capital. According to him, he does this in order to enjoy better health and fitness and recommends it to his followers on their profiles on his social platform. They commented on this on the program Sonsoles Ónega, showing those photos of Llorente with a bare torso taking his dogs out and with the thermometers in Madrid not reaching zero degrees. The public health specialist, David Cespedes, gave his opinion on the matter on “Y Ahora Sonsoles” (Antena 3) and surprised those present, as he was somewhat critical regarding the player’s habits. “It is not recommended for everyone, because when the body temperature drops excessively, breathing and heart rate begin to accelerate,” Cespedes noted. This doctor pointed out that it could be healthy but following the guidelines that do not seem to be those followed by Marcos Llorente, which would be “to go out without a shirt and walk for five to ten minutes, with temperatures between 12 and 15 degrees, that can be a good habit.” What happens is that the Spanish footballer was walking first thing in the morning for 20 minutes, which is “exaggerated” and in temperatures ranging from “0 to 5 degrees”. Cespedes wanted to be careful when referring to the player but shared an idea that could be applied to Llorente’s situation: “Personal experience is not scientific evidence. This would be a repetition of the first experience, which has occurred in many individuals.” Sonsoles Ónega had a nutrition and athlete coach agree with Marcos Llorente who would implement the same practice. Onats Alcaraz, from Pamplona, recommended doing the same thing as a player, at zero degrees and without a shirt, but getting used to it gradually. He confirms that science supports this formula, because it activates “a neurotransmitter that gives you energy and focus, so it is better to start the morning this way rather than in front of your cell phone from bed,” as he puts it.
