Alani case: Defense says killer was ‘playing’ with gun

The two witnesses who were present at that time, Alani Fernanda (Featured image), 13 years old, was killed by a gunshot, and claimed that the shot was accidental. According to the information provided by the perpetrator’s defense, the gun had exploded when the victim and the suspect were playing with the gun.

Alani died on November 4, after being shot in the head, in Sul Nacente (DF). The main suspect, 20-year-old Carlos Eduardo Pessoa Tavares, was caught red-handed.

“A friend and a friend of Alani’s, who witnessed the scene of the accident, were heard. They both stated that it was an accident. The witnesses even stated that Carlos Eduardo did not know that the gun was loaded. They said that he went to play with the victim, as was their custom, and the gun went off at her,” said lawyer Paulo Sergio de Mello.

Initially, Carlos stated that two people wearing helmets broke into the plot of land where he lived to steal and one of them shot Alani. However, during investigations, the Special Police Station for Women’s Aid (Deam II), in Selandia, denied the suspect’s account.

In a new statement, the young man presented another version of what happened. Carlos said that, on the night of November 2, he went out to a bar in Sealandia with his girlfriend. The couple was accompanied by Alani, Alani’s 16-year-old boyfriend, and the victim’s boyfriend.

Hours later, the group had moved to Carlos Network, in Sol Nacente. But his girlfriend did not accompany the quartet and went to her house.

During the early hours of the morning, they were ordering sandwiches and pizza via the delivery app. When Alani’s friend got up to get another slice of pizza, Carlos accidentally shot the other teen.

A preliminary examination identified bite marks on Carlos’ chest and arm. Furthermore, Alani also had purple marks on her neck, which could indicate a possible fight between those involved.

However, the boy’s lawyer disputed this version. “The bruises on Alani’s neck were caused by her boyfriend. Carlos did not have any romantic relationship with the teenager. He said he met her a few days before the accident,” Paulo claimed.

The case

In the early hours of November 3, the Military Police (PMDF) were called to respond to a shooting incident in Sol Nacente. When she arrived at the scene, the suspect’s home, the young woman was in the ambulance.

In addition to the bullet wound to her face, the young woman had purple marks on her neck, which may indicate suffocation.

The victim was hospitalized in very serious condition at Sealandia Regional Hospital (HRC) and was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the base hospital. According to family members, she had lost brain matter and was breathing with the help of machines. In the early hours of November 4, his relatives confirmed Alani’s death.

According to the family, on Saturday (11/1) the teenager was with her mother, but she left the house and lied about her destination. On Monday morning, a friend sent a message to the girl’s aunt telling her that she had been shot.

Early in the afternoon of the same day, the courts continued the arrest of Carlos Eduardo Pessoa Tavares, the main suspect in the crime.
