Paramilitary militias declare a unilateral truce for 3 months – DW – 11/24/2025

The commander of the Sudanese Rapid Support Forces unilaterally declared a three-month truce on Monday (11/24/2025), a day after the army rejected an international ceasefire proposal.

Mohamed Dagalo announced in a video clip that this measure was taken “in response to international efforts, especially the initiative of US President Donald Trump and the mediators.”

Sudan, the “worst humanitarian crisis” on the planet

Since April 2023, Sudan has been suffering from a war pitting the army led by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the country’s de facto leader, against the Rapid Support Forces of his former right-hand man, Dagalo.

The conflict, marked by reports of atrocities against both sides, has killed tens of thousands and displaced millions of people, plunging the country into what the United Nations calls the world’s “worst humanitarian crisis.”

The army rejects Saudi mediation

US President Donald Trump’s envoy to Africa, Massad Boulos, recently put forward a proposal for a truce on behalf of the United States, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt, which are mediating countries, the details of which were not revealed.

On Sunday, the army commander considered the initiative “unacceptable” and called on citizens to “immediately join the front lines.” In addition, the mediators were accused of bias, because the United Arab Emirates, which is accused of supporting the RSF, is part of the arbitration.
