The United States and China have a “very strong” relationship – DW – 11/24/2025

Today, Monday (11/24/2025), US President Donald Trump praised the “very strong” relationship between the United States and China, after speaking with his counterpart Xi Jinping, although he did not mention the controversial Taiwan issue.

The White House leader also confirmed that he will visit China in April 2026 and that Xi will head to Washington later in the year.

Beijing claims that Taiwan is part of its territory and does not rule out invading the island, which is under strong military, economic and diplomatic pressure.

China’s Xinhua News Agency reported that Xi told Trump during the call that the two countries should “maintain the current momentum” of their relations, after the two leaders met in South Korea at the end of October.

The Chinese leader also stressed that Taiwan’s reintegration into China is “an important part of the post-war international order,” according to media.

In a later statement, Trump highlighted the strength of the ties between the two countries, but did not mention the Taiwan issue. The United States does not recognize Taiwan’s aspirations to become a state, but it is its main partner and largest arms supplier.

Trump wrote on his platform, Truth Social, “Our relationship with China is very strong. This call was a continuation of our very successful meeting in South Korea three weeks ago. Since then, significant progress has been made on both sides to keep our agreements current and accurate.”.
