Federal Rep. Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) said in 2018 that house arrest was not a serious matter in the country and that Brazil could not “even monitor electronic ankle bracelets,” which “every prisoner at home will say.”

On Saturday (22), former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) was arrested in pretrial detention after trying to break his electronic ankle bracelet with a soldering iron, as he himself admitted to prison officers.
“I used a hot iron, a hot iron…curious.” A soldering iron is a pointed tool that reaches a high temperature and allows you to melt metal.
The former president’s lawyers say he should return to the previous regime.
The defense claims that based on information from the Federal District Authority responsible for electronic ankle bracelets, and in particular from the medical team accompanying the former president regarding the medications he had taken, “it is clear that there was no attempt to escape or evade the enforcement of the criminal law.”
Bolsonaro suffered from “mental confusion and hallucinations” due to the medications. That would explain this episode.
Shortly after meeting with the medical team, Bolsonaro described the situation as a moment of “paranoia” as he participated in the detention hearing.
