The Ukrainian capital Kiev was the target of a series of explosions on Monday night (24/11), according to the country’s air force, which issued a warning of a ballistic attack. According to the Ukrainian military, Russia launched Kinzhal missiles, Shahed drones and cruise missiles towards the capital and other areas of the country. The attacks occurred even after President Volodymyr Zelensky called for the attacks to stop.
Ukrainian portal, Kyiv Independent, reported several explosions at around 1 a.m. (local time). New explosions were recorded about half an hour later, at 1:28 AM.
The air defense forces were activated immediately, according to local authorities. Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko said anti-aircraft systems were operational and emergency teams had been mobilized.
The head of the city’s military administration, Timur Tkachenko, confirmed that the Darnitsky district was attacked.
Moments before the first explosions, Tkachenko had also issued a warning about the ballistic missile threat in the capital, which was confirmed with Russian MiG-31 bombers taking off from air bases inside Russia.

The attack occurred hours after Zelensky’s request
The explosions came shortly after President Volodymyr Zelensky made a public appeal to stop attacks on Ukrainian cities, as the United States, Europe and Ukraine advance negotiations for a potential peace deal.
“If we are truly moving towards ending the war, there should be no missiles or large-scale attacks against our people,” the Ukrainian said.
