Trends Event | Europe needs to connect with Iberian renewable energy sources Directions | project

With regard to energy affairs, Europe is going through a turning point, especially since the Russian invasion of Ukraine. In this context of uncertainty, Spain has positioned itself as a leader in the development and consumption of renewable energies, making it an actor of a certain weight on the geopolitical arena. Beatriz Corridor, president of Redeia, and Andrea Rizzi, global affairs correspondent for EL PAÍS, spoke about this at the Tendencias 2025 event, held in Madrid.

“Spain is increasingly attractive for electricity-intensive industry, something that does not interest all European countries,” Corridor said at the meeting, commenting that since 2000 the country has led, and continues to lead, the installation of renewable energy. “Europe needs renewable energy from Spain and Portugal to reach the countries where it is in demand,” the foundation’s president added, stressing that it is now more than ever necessary to strengthen interconnectedness between countries.
