The defenses of Jair Bolsonaro, Alexandre Ramajim and Anderson Torres did not present any new prohibitions against the decision of the First Commission of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) that convicted the three defendants and five other allies of the coup attempt.
The deadline for submitting the second ban ended at the end of Monday (11/24). Now, Minister Alexandre de Moraes can now declare the case regarding the three accused final.
Defendants’ lawyers can still appeal by violating the ban. However, the Court’s case law states that this appeal only applies when there are at least two dissenting votes among the five ministers. In the first substantive trial, only Minister Louise Fox agreed, and he moved to the second panel after the case.
Under this scenario, the likelihood of violating bans being rejected is high. If the defendants’ defense chooses to present them, an appeal could be filed by the end of this week.

PL identifies Flavio as Bolsonaro’s interlocutor in prison
Bolsonaro has been held in pre-trial detention at the Federal Police Supervision Authority (PF) since Saturday morning (22/11), after the body claimed it was necessary to ensure public order. The defense even introduced an initial ban on the announcement, which was later rejected by university ministers in the virtual plenary.
The former president was initially sentenced to 27 years in prison under a closed regime.
Anderson Torres’ defense also did not mention the new ban. Earlier, the lawyers of the former Minister of Justice asked the Special Force to carry out the possible punishment in the Federal Police Supervision Authority (PF), in Brasilia, or in the Operational Aviation Battalion (Bavop) of the Federal Prime Minister.
The defense stated in the motion that Torres had suffered from depression since his arrest in January 2023, and continued to use venlafaxine (an antidepressant) and olanzapine (an antipsychotic). According to the lawyers, the psychological state of the former minister makes his imprisonment in a joint prison “incompatible,” because of the danger it poses to his physical and mental safety.
The document also asserts that Torres faces a high risk in the prison system because of his career. The former minister was a federal police delegate for more than two decades, holding highly exposed positions and working to combat organized crime. Torres was sentenced to 24 years in prison.
Ramajim left the country
The third defendant who did not file a new ban is federal MP Alexander Ramajim (PL-RJ). The former director general of the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (Abin) traveled to the United States in September, without adhering to the procedures stipulated by Moraes, who issued a preventive arrest warrant against him.
Ramajim, who has been sentenced to more than 16 years in prison, denies escaping, but says he traveled to the United States of America so that his daughters would not see his arrest.
He said in an interview with journalist Alan dos Santos: “It is logical that I will not stay in Brazil, where my daughters see me arrested without having committed any crime and subjected to the dictatorship. I was able to leave so as not to expose my family to this violence. Today I am safe here, with the approval of the American government, facing serious persecution – and the country will only understand the reasons for all this with time.”
