An electrical fault caused a fire in a house on Fuencarral Street and ten people were poisoned by smoke

A fire in an apartment building on Fuencarral Street in Madrid left ten with minor smoke inhalation injuries, two of them National Police officers. The fire occurred on the first floor of No. 10, Central Madrid Street, due to a possible electrical fault.

The events occurred around 1:15 p.m. This Wednesday. Firefighters from the Madrid City Council and health workers from the Civil Protection of Samur traveled to the site, according to Madrid Emergency Services. Less than an hour later, Madrid firefighters were able to put out the fire.

Health workers treated ten people for poisoning, six of whom had minor injuries and were released from the scene. Two of the injured were National Police officers and did not require transport to hospital.

While two other people who were inside the house suffered moderate and mild poisoning as a result of smoke inhalation. They had to be transferred to the Clinical Hospital and the Jimenez Diaz Foundation.

Early indications are that the fire may have been caused by an electrical short circuit, which also caused a large amount of smoke to billow. For its part, the municipal police closed the roads to facilitate the passage of emergency vehicles.
