On Monday (10), the Public Prosecutor’s Office asked the STF (Federal Supreme Court) to convict three federal lawmakers from the PL, the party of former President Jair Bolsonaro, on charges of corruption related to parliamentary amendments.
Charges were brought against Josemar Maranhaozinho (PL-MA), Bosco Costa (PL-SE) and Pastor Gil (PL-MA) in August, in an undercover operation. Now, in a statement to the STF, PGR Hindenburgo deputy Chateaubriand Filho repeated the accusations of passive corruption and criminal organization.
They are accused of taking bribes to allocate resources to the municipality of São José de Ribamar (MA) through parliamentary amendments.
The case is under the supervision of the STF by Minister Cristiano Zanin.
He added, “The evidence collected, most notably the dialogues that were examined and the documents that were seized during the investigation, confirms the accusation that the defendants formed a criminal organization focused on distributing parliamentary amendments to municipalities in exchange for bribes.”
The complaints against the three were the first to be brought against parliamentarians with Paulo Jeunet as Attorney General.
The Public Prosecution also requests the loss of the general mandate and the determination of compensation for collective moral damages.
In addition to the three, there are six other people responsible for these actions, who are not deputies: Abrau Nunes Martínez Neto, Adonis Nunes Martínez, Antônio José Silva Rocha, and Thales Andrade Costa.
According to the PGR, the central nucleus was formed by parliamentarians, with Maranhausenio as the leader.
“Although the defendants claim that it was a personal loan, the illicit nature of the transaction was undoubtedly revealed by Josimar’s concern about the fact that Pastor Gil’s private account was used. For this reason he said ‘I don’t think it is legal, as I have to take care of my deputy’ (page 30 of RAPJ No. 4848329/2021), warning of the need to make the process difficult to trace.” PGR.
Investigators account for more than R$1.6 million in bribes – R$1.03 million (referring to the 25% of R$4.12 million in adjustments from Bosco Costa), R$375,000 (25% of R$1.5 million in adjustments from Maranhaozinho) and R$262,000 (25% of R$1.05 million in adjustments from Pastor Gill).
The scheme, according to police investigations, involved extortion from city councils benefiting from budget funds made available by the aforementioned deputies. Loan shark Joseval Cavalcante da Silva, known as Bacovan, was responsible for the approaches, according to the indictment.
The resources will be transferred, according to the investigation, through contracts with shell companies. The investigation indicates that the amounts were transferred to the deputies. The investigation indicates that Bakuvan and his group received a commission.
