Planalto believes he already has the votes to protect Messias in the INSS’s CPMI

The Planalto Palace estimates that it has already obtained the necessary votes to prevent the summoning of Jorge Messias, nominated by President Lula for membership of the STF, to testify at the INSS CPMI. The committee, composed of representatives and senators, is expected to consider the contact request on Thursday (11/27).

Government members estimate that the hearing in the joint parliamentary investigative committee would create an uncomfortable political environment for Messias on the eve of the hearing in the Senate to confirm the nomination to the highest court of the country.

“It is clearly a call of a political nature. It even contradicts the procedures we have adopted in relation to ministers and former ministers. It is a completely unreasonable call and certainly deserves to be rejected. We have enough votes to reject this call. Moreover, we have already secured the votes to approve the name of Christ in the Senate,” said MP Paolo Pimenta (PT) in the column.

The opposition, in turn, stresses that summoning Messias is important to investigate the alleged negligence by the Prime Minister of the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office in identifying the undeserved cuts that affected pensioners and retirees.
