Noboa receives the Italian anti-mafia prosecutor in Ecuador to “strengthen” cooperation against crime

Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa and Foreign Minister Gabriela Sommerfeld held a meeting on Wednesday with Italian anti-mafia prosecutor Giovanni Melillo with the aim of “strengthening cooperative relations” on security matters and combating “transnational organized crime.”

This was announced on the social networking site X by the Ecuadorian presidency, which added stopping “money laundering” to its goals. Likewise, the Ecuadorian Ministry of Foreign Affairs specified through the same platform that the executive “confirmed its determination to combat organized criminal groups resolutely, realizing that this threat requires a joint and sustained response.”

In this sense, Sommerfeld highlighted “the strategic role of the European Union, and in particular Italy, for Ecuador with regard to security”, highlighting in Rome its “regional programs that strengthen security, police cooperation and regional support”, shortly after the Presidency repeated the award that Noboa had awarded to Paolo Di Chiova, Director of the Italian-Ecuadorian Program for the Institutional Strengthening of the Security System.

In the same action, the President also honored the Italian Ambassador in Quito, Giovanni Davoli, by awarding him the Order of Honorato Vásquez, Grand Cross.
