The show of support shown by Flamengo fans has gone beyond the concert in Galeão: the flight that took the Rio de Janeiro delegation to Lima for the Libertadores final became the most watched flight in the world last Wednesday (26). To give you an idea, roughly the same number of red and black people as AeroFla — about 15,000 people — watched the plane take off with the athletes, committee members and the board of directors.
The world record was achieved as the team approached the Peruvian capital, with 19,967 red and black people following the route simultaneously. In fact, the delegation found more parties outside the hotel in Lima, which had already been completely taken over by the Brazilians.
Before that, at the Rio airport, traditional farewell rituals took the form of mass dedication. Fans did not just follow or ride the bus, as they traditionally do, but this time they had access to the interior of the vehicle. Dozens of red and black-skinned people entered the car through the roof, and despite the dangers, they enjoyed the moment passionately.
The players, who were afraid at first, also got into the spirit. The athletes shared the moment of conquest, the affection of the fans and the chaos that followed the AeroFla. For example, Jorginho went shirtless and “won” a pair of glasses, while Varela joked about his prediction for the player in red and black, whose assist “predicted” Saul to score the title-winning goal.
Reception in Lima
As was the case throughout the trip, from Ninho’s departure to disembarkation in Peru, the delegation found more celebration upon arriving at the hotel. The team arrived in the capital at 9:30pm local time (11:30pm Brasilia time) on Wednesday and were greeted by hundreds of fans in front of the Miraflores Hotel.
Filipe Luis – who has already won the Libertadores with the club as an athlete – traveled with all the names. In other words, including the injured Pedro and Leo Ortiz, who remain doubtful for Saturday (29). Gonzalo Plata, who was suspended from the final match, also accompanies the delegation in Lima.

The atmosphere revolved around the importance and weight of this continental decision. In addition to being the main tournament between clubs on the continent, the decision of the 2025 Libertadores will determine the first Brazilian to win the American title four times.
Rubro Negro and Alviverde will meet this Saturday (29), starting at 6pm (Brasilia time), at Monumental U, in Lima.
