Since last night, Plaza Moreno in La Plata has had an unusual atmosphere worthy of an action movie. It was even surprising that a helicopter fell in the heart of the city. In the morning you can already see parking lots and vehicles such as jet skis and even classic buggies used on the beaches, but printed with firefighter decals.
What is the purpose of this step? Everything has an explanation: Today is National Civil Defense Day, so this morning the “Provincial Emergency System Meeting” organized by the prefecture is held. It started at 10 a.m. and continues until 5 p.m. Visitors will be able to learn about the nature of the work of those who risk their lives in various events.
The fact is that National Civil Defense Day is commemorated in memory of the earthquake that occurred on November 23, 1977, in recognition of the essential role played by the National Council of Civil Defense after the devastating earthquake that occurred in Cosetí, San Juan Province.
The organizers explained that this meeting day is being held in Green Space 14 between 51 and 53 “to honor the work and commitment of all members of the civil defense system, who are permanently working in the prevention, response and management of emergencies, and to clarify efforts with many public and volunteer organizations.”
They added, “The goal is to strengthen the institutional vision of the civil defense system at the provincial and municipal levels. Disseminate good practices in risk management and emergency response. Create a space for technical and community exchange. Encourage citizen participation and training on self-protection and prevention issues.”
Participating in this event are the PBA Emergency System, Municipal Civil Defense, response organizations and entities linked to security and emergency assistance, who operate their platforms where they present prevention activities developed together with their community; Information and audio-visual materials on local emergency plans; Samples of equipment; Operational tools and protocols; Real-time demonstrations of working techniques or maneuvers; CPR drills and first aid practices; Radio communications equipment exhibition. Mobile command and logistics centers; Speaking of weather alerts. Inter-institutional communication and coordination systems; Open workshops on developing family emergency plans, among other activities.
