By 2027, CD Projekt expects to have nearly 500 developers working on the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel

The sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 has become one of the most anticipated games for the next few years, even though it will take a long time to reach PC and consoles… possibly already on the next generation of hardware.

Yes, it’s true that Cyberpunk 2 already has an official name and is in the pre-production phase, but CD Projekt has already announced that The Witcher 4 will be released first (hence it being a candidate for most anticipated game at The Game Awards 2025).

CD Projekt RED revealed its financial results for the third quarter of 2025, covering the period from July to September this year, updating Cyberpunk sales across all platforms.

Adding sales on the Switch 2 with the Ultimate Edition, Cyberpunk 2077 has accumulated more than 35 million copies sold, so it stands to reason that the futuristic RPG will have a sequel in a few years.

The report indicates that There are currently 135 people working on Cyberpunk 2 developmenta significant increase if we take into account that there were 116 in the month of July.

And here’s another, even more ambitious objective: the Polish study The expectation is that, by 2027, there will be almost 500 developers working on the project formerly known as Orion.

Almost 500 developers will work on Cyberpunk 2 by 2027

One of the pages of CD Projekt’s financial report shows the evolution of the team dedicated to Cyberpunk 2 from 2023 to now, with very ambitious predictions for the future year 2027.

Development is handled by CD Projekt’s main studio in Warsaw, but with significant support from the Boston studio.

In these moments, Cyberpunk 2 has 135 people in command of the main team, and over 50 from the Boston studiowith the idea of almost fivefold this number by 2027.

The development team in Boston is expected to employ around 200 people to work on the sequel, while the headquarters in Poland will employ a total of over 300, to reach the target of 500 developers.

It’s great news, since Cyberpunk 2 is a AAA that requires a lot of resources to come to fruition, and even more so if the creator of the tabletop RPG wants Keanu Reeves back in the cast.

Out of curiosity, The Witcher 4 has more than 447 developers working on the project, so that it can reach stores between the end of 2026 (unlikely) and 2027.

Project Sirius, the multiplayer spin-off of The Witcher, has 56 developerswhile the new Hadar IP reaches almost 30 people. Finally, 22 developers work on ”other projects”, where the remake of the first The Witcher is certainly located.

What do you expect from Cyberpunk 2? What we do know is that it could encompass Night City and a second city (a decaying Chicago in the future), and that it will feature the most realistic crowds ever seen in a video game.
