What a mess has been made with the changes that are coming to the saga Yakuzanow Like a Dragon, because on December 8th the new versions of Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami 2 will arrive for PlayStation, Xbox and PC.
After passing through Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, anyone who has these games on PS4, Xbox One and PC will be able to update them to the new versions… but paying in two of the three cases.
Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut is the definitive version of the prequel with Kazuma Kiryu, and will soon be available for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, but with one big problem (among many others).
Sega confirms that, from that date, the original version of Yakuza 0 will no longer be available buy in digital stores, which makes a big problem for PS4 and Xbox One users.
Today, Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut has not been announced for PS4 and Oneso removing the original will make it impossible to purchase the prequel… unless you have it in physical format, of course.
It seems that, for now, the same will not happen with Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami 2, which will also receive native versions on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The first is paid and the second is free.
Yakuza Fans Explode Over Yakuza 0 Goodbye
Last Friday, Sega announced all the details of the updates for Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami from the original versions to the new ones for PS5, Xbox Series and PC.
What many have not detected is that a series of unfortunate decisions will be triggered from December 8, 2025starting with the removal of Yakuza 0 from digital stores.
Now Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut will be the only version of this prequel available, making it it is impossible to buy it in digital format for PS4 and Xbox One.
But there’s more: PC versions available on GOG will not be valid for updateand the 3 games will stop working on Windows 10so you will need Windows 11 to run them on PC.
Yakuza fans also lament that the remakes of Yakuza 0, Kiwami and Kiwami 2 they break the mods already availableand, to complete the chaos, Unable to transfer games from original versions.
As expected, reactions have been very negative on social media, leaving pearls such as the following:
- ”Now I honestly hate this company. All my respect went down the drain and I wish them the worst.”.
- ”Yakuza fans on Twitter would have killed you two months ago for saying what’s happening now would happen. “I received death threats for saying that all they do are little remakes to erase their legacy just for money.”
- ”It’s great how, since his popularity exploded, RGG has gone down a path of self-destruction.”
- ”RGG is getting too arrogant for his own good, and we all know how that’s going to end.”
They also blame Ryu Ga Gotoku, as is logical since they are the creators of the game’s saga. However, It’s probably Sega’s decision.Well, they already did the same with Sonic.
If you haven’t played Yakuza 0 yet and still play on PS4 or Xbox One, we recommend you Buy as soon as possible and if it’s physical the better..
Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut, Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami 2 will arrive on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC on December 8th, generating countless negative reactions that could cause a drastic change of decision. I hope so.
