Christ in the Syrian Revolutionary Front: Kassab remains neutral and does not interfere in the votes of the Social Democratic Party

The head of the Public Security Directorate, Gilberto Kassab, announced to the newspaper that he would not interfere in the position of the party body regarding the nomination of union prosecutor Jorge Messias for membership of the STF. The party has the second largest seat in the Senate, with 13 parliamentarians, and is part of the government base.

Kassab explained that the party does not adopt a closed approach in Congressional votes. “Since its establishment, the Director of Public Security has not closed any case related to any topic at the National Conference.”

The leader also said that he showed enthusiasm when there was a possibility of former Senate President Rodrigo Pacheco being nominated for the vacant position.

“With regard to this vacancy in the STF, I have expressed on several occasions my enthusiasm for the possibility of nominating Senator Rodrigo Pacheco. For those who have always praised the qualities of Rodrigo Pacheco, and defended his name for the position of President of the Republic, there is nothing more logical than defending his name for the Supreme Court.”

According to Kassab, President Lula’s appointment of Messias ended this alternative. “From the moment another name was presented, I understand that at the moment, for this vacant position, Rodrigo Pacheco’s project is in jeopardy.”

The leader finally added that he expressed his personal position to the members of his body. “I expressed to some PSD senators who consulted me on this matter my support for the appointment of Jorge Mesías.”

Messias’ hearing is scheduled for December 10 in the Committee on the Constitution and Justice (CCJ), chaired by Otto Alencar (PSD). Voting will take place in the plenary session on the same day.
