Madrid, November 27 (European Press) –
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro asked the air force on Thursday to be “on alert” to defend Venezuela amid speculation about possible military intervention by the United States in the Latin American country.
“I ask you to always be calm in your serenity: alert, ready and ready to defend our rights as a nation,” he said during a speech he delivered within the framework of the celebration of the 105th anniversary of the Bolivarian Military Aviation.
Maduro stressed that “there is no threat or aggression that intimidates” Venezuela in the face of the actions of “foreign imperialist forces”, which “constantly threaten to alter the peace” in the Caribbean region “under false and exaggerated pretexts.”
“If history demands that we declare ourselves an armed republic,” he stressed, “then history will once again see that we raise the sacred banner of Miranda, the banner of Bolívar: yellow, blue, red and eight stars, resplendent and victorious.”
Speculation about possible US intervention in Venezuela comes after the deployment of forces in the region with the aim of combating drug trafficking and after the Sun Cartel was classified as a “terrorist organization” with Washington placing Maduro at its head.
In the past few hours, hundreds of international flights have been canceled after the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued an alert for planes flying over the Latin American country to exercise extreme caution.
Venezuelan authorities on Wednesday revoked the concessions granted to six airlines, including Spain’s Iberia, for “joining acts of state terrorism promoted by the United States government.” Last Saturday, the Spanish airline announced the suspension of its operations after notifying the Federal Aviation Administration.
