In the process, federal representatives Josémar Maranhauzinho (PL-MA), Pastor Gil (PL-MA) and the alternative Bosco Costa (PL-SE) were denounced.
The accused who have not yet spoken are Antonio José Silva Rocha, former mayor of Agua Doce (MA), Adonis Gomez Martins and Abraão Nunes Martins Neto, identified by the Federal Police (PF) as “armed arms” of the alleged leader of the structure, Rep. Josémar Maranhaozinho and Joseval Cavancante da Silva (Bacovan).
With Zanin’s decision, the trio will now have five non-extendable days to submit their statement to the process.
The STF Minister stressed that if they do not speak out, it is already permissible for the case to be referred to the Federal Public Defender’s Office or to a court-appointed lawyer.
The other defendants in the case have already given their final statements, as has the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which is leading the prosecution in the criminal case.
Investigation
The process surrounding the sale of parliamentary amendments depends on an investigation coordinated by the Federal Police (PF).
The investigation revealed that Josemar Maranhaozinho coordinated the formation of a criminal organization focused on the improper commercial exploitation of parliamentary amendments.
According to the National Front, the parliamentarians have joined forces with usurers and “armed weapons”.
Bacovan would be responsible for lending money to the parliamentarians, who promised to return the amount from the transfer of public funds allocated to the cities located in the interior of Maranhão.
As the complaint indicates, in 2020, the then parliamentarians asked the then mayor of São José do Ribamar for a bribe of R$1.6 million so that they could allocate R$6.6 million for modifications to the city. The head of the municipal executive authority was the one who informed the authorities of the situation.
