Fluminense and Sao Paulo presented a strange scene at the Maracanã on Thursday evening (27). Before the ball rolled in the 36th round of the Brazilian League, the teams entered the field accompanied by dogs. In short, this is an adoption in partnership with Abrigo João Rosa. In fact, all 22 dogs are available for new homes.
The campaign, started by Fluminense, was supported by São Paulo and was called “Adopt a Warrior Dog”. The idea is to raise awareness among fans, highlight the dogs and encourage responsible adoption.
In fact, an Abrigo João Rosa store has been set up in Maracanã, where fans can contribute donations or purchase products from the platform.
Fluminense and Sao Paulo players entered with their dogs on leashes, some in their arms. In addition, images of dogs were also shown on the Maracanã screen.

About Joao Rosa Shelter
The João Rosa shelter is named after its founder, João Rosa. He worked and lived in a parking lot, where he began taking in abandoned and injured animals that turned up on the streets. Over time, João took care of about 40 dogs on site.
Given the situation, the parking lot owner demanded that João remove the animals or leave the lot. João chose to leave and built an improvised shelter for himself and the dogs under an overpass. This decision had personal consequences: his wife moved away, but João chose to stay alongside the animals.
As the number of dogs increased, neighbors began to complain about the noise and the number of animals. After several complaints, the municipality of Río João granted a larger plot of land. However, the space was just an empty plot of land, without any structure. At that time, with the support of the Animal Protector, João began work on building and organizing what is now known as the João Rosa Shelter.
